If you've been to the "About Us" page on our website you've seen Red Star Acres is and represents many things. First and foremost it is our expression of our lifestyle. It is simple, though not easy. Here we can step back to a simpler time, building on something we create on our own land. When we were choosing this lifestyle we searched for just the perfect livestock to raise. We considered many but settled on a few. Alpacas rose to the top of the list. But not just any alpacas--no. We had many options to consider but came back to what Dwight's upbringing on a livestock ranch taught him. If you're going to raise stock, then raise the best stock you possibly can--they are always in demand. Our research revealed the Accoyo Suri Alpaca is the finest alpaca in the world--bar none. They are strong, resilent, beautifully elegant creatures. And the fleece--oh, the fleece, is superb. And since the alpaca is a fiber animal--that is the focus of our breeding program.

Under the Red Star Acres Alpaca Division our goal is simple, to produce the finest Suri Alpaca line in the world—a line we've named the SapAccoyo® Royal Accoyo Suri Alpaca line. The goal is simple; reaching it is far from it. From Don Barreda’s Fullblood Accoyo Suri Alpaca line, imported to the United States from the Accoyo Ranch in Peru we are developing the next generation, 21st century alpaca—the SapAccoyo®. We don’t aspire to being a large Alpaca operation, but our stock quality is and will be top shelf--100% Full Accoyo Suri, EVERY animal! Our motivation is not profit nor show-circuit notoriety, but a quiet confident quest to produce high quality reliable breeding stock in the way of Don Julio Barreda. What is a SapAccoyo®? Today, one line stands above all when it comes to alpaca quality—“Accoyo”. The Estancia (Ranch) Accoyo Peru and its creator, Don Julio Barreda epitomize the quest for alpaca genetic perfection resulting in his fabulous Accoyos. In Peru, long before Don Barreda, “Sapa Inca”, or the “Unique Inca”, was the title reserved for the Emperor, the most royal of Inca royalty. Therefore SapAccoyo® represents our respect to the royal Accoyo Suri Alpacas of Don Barreda and his lifetime commitment to excellence. The SapAccoyo® line is the "Unique Accoyo" alpaca.  At Red Star Acres, we humbly recognize the significance of Don Barreda’s genius art in genetics as an achievement which will likely never to be equaled—surely not by us. Our methedology is simple, in theory; starting with carefully-selected fullblood specimens of the Accoyo Suri line, employing genetic art and science, preserve the Accoyo Suri Alpaca and continue to develop the next generation Suri alpaca—the SapAccoyo® Royal Accoyo Suri Alpaca. While the method is simple, executing it is not. The SapAccoyo® Project is a complex multi-faceted breeding project. As the alpaca is first and foremost a fiber livestock, the ultimate focus of the SapAccoyo® Project is producing the ultimate natural fiber. Whereas the Accoyo program emphasized white as the color of choice, the SapAccoyo® Project will honor this as well as explore the infusion of desired REPRODUCIBLE colors while maintaining 100% fullblood Accoyo Suri alpaca stock AND Accoyo standards--not a trivial task. To implement our goal we employ a critical selection of breeding stock.

The SapAccoyo® Project’s genesis foundation herd was merely five head—100% Fullblood Accoyo Suri Alpacas. The individual Accoyo bloodlines of the SapAccoyo® foundation herd would be impressive for ANY size herd but in an initial herd of just five head it was and is extraordinary. The SapAccoyo® Project is a modern breeding program of phenotype, genotype, and bloodline methods as well as Estimated Progeny Differences (EPDs). We will not compromise the long-term SapAccoyo® goal. As such, SapAccoyo®s and stud services will be available on an extremely limited basis as the herd develops.
